Office Depot Distribution Center

SBLM provided design and programming services for a new 600,000 sf distribution center to be located within a 1.2 million sf warehouse building in Newville, PA. The mission was to help Office Depot plan for the consolidation of a number of other facilities in the region. One of the client's goals was to achieve LEED certification without adding more than 5% to the budget for conventional construction. Schedule and phasing were key considerations as employees would be transferred from other locations without an interruption to the operation of the warehouse. SBLM presented a design-build solution. Its team worked closely with the supply chain managers, vendors and suppliers to map out a strategy for procurement, permitting, and phasing of construction. SBLM worked with the local jurisdiction authorities to ensure a smooth path for approvals. SBLM's team of engineers tackled complex design issues, including the stratification of air movement and the incorporation of a 100,000 sf Kiva robotics system. The project achieved LEED certification.
