THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER!!!
THE NEW FOUR- STORY ADDITION OF THE BRACKETT BUILDING AT SOUTH SHORE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL….
We’ve been planning, programming, and designing this addition since we were authorized to and now, the wait is almost over. While we designed the exterior façade to work in harmony with the existing bordering building, this addition to the Brackett Building provides exciting originality to Northwell’s South Shore University Hospital campus located in Bay Shore, Long Island.
After listening to the goals and concerns of Northwell Health, our super team, made up of architects, designers, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire and materials engineers, responded to the significant challenges of the site and building. The building is located in a hurricane zone and flood plain on an extremely tight site with an adjacent noisy emergency generator and regulatory integration of the new spaces with existing units. Relocating a primary egress stair from the existing floors without disrupting egress was an additional requisite.
By giving the community this 14,067sf expansion, additional medical surgical rooms, two floors of bed extensions to the existing telemetry and pediatric in-patient bed units have been created. Floors one will be shell space for future use, and the third floor (with unusually challenging floor to floor height- 10’6”) planned for two hybrid operating rooms (ORs) for image-guided surgery.
Being a partner of South Shore University Hospital as it continues its growth and expansion as Northwell Health’s flagship hospital in Suffolk County, is more than gratifying. We understand the importance of recognizing that as these regional populations have grown, so too have their healthcare needs. And, the wait is almost over to unveil this next step in benefitting the well-being of our Long Island communities.
