This project involved the comprehensive renovation and modernization of an existing 1960s-era school building, requiring extensive upgrades to aging infrastructure while adapting the facility to meet current educational, performance, and safety standards. The scope included significant mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC improvements designed to comply with current DISD technical design guidelines and energy-efficiency requirements. SBLM’s work required careful evaluation and coordination of existing conditions to integrate new building systems within the constraints of the original construction while supporting the continued functionality and long-term performance of the facility.

A major component of the renovation included replacement of severely deteriorated curtainwall and window systems throughout the school. The new exterior assemblies improved weather protection, thermal performance, energy efficiency, and access to natural daylight while maintaining an appropriate architectural character for the existing building. The project also incorporated a new secure entry vestibule at the main entrance to strengthen access control and campus safety. Throughout the renovation, architectural and engineering improvements were closely coordinated to address aging materials, existing structural and infrastructure conditions, code compliance, constructability, and the complex integration of modern systems within an established school facility.
