As Office Depot shifted away from its traditional retail footprint toward business services, it needed more than a workplace. It needed a center of operations that could support fast-moving teams, high-volume data, and the realities of client-facing enterprise work. SBLM was brought in to design a space that could support that change. This wasn’t about brand presence or office design trends. It was about creating an environment where people could work faster, share information more easily, and scale without losing alignment.

The plan separates quiet focus from active collaboration. Individual zones are designed to reduce interruptions, while shared areas are placed intentionally where cross-team meetings happen most. Layout decisions were based on real use cases, not open-office assumptions. The space also had to support rapid scaling. SBLM used modular workstations and adaptable room configurations that allow teams to grow, restructure, or reassign zones without requiring major renovation.

Technology integration wasn’t treated as an add-on. It was factored into circulation, wall systems, and power distribution from day one. Everything was built to reduce friction, whether employees are meeting in person, onboarding remotely, or running multi-platform calls.

Finishes are commercial grade for a reason. This is a high-use space with minimal tolerance for downtime. Surfaces are easy to maintain. Lighting is balanced for screens and human comfort. Sightlines support both supervision and autonomy. Office Depot’s Business Solution Center is not a showroom. It is a working environment that reflects how modern service organizations operate under pressure. SBLM’s role was to make that possible — not by following trends, but by understanding what the work actually requires.
