Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine, New Teaching Research Center, Adaptive Reuse Of 1970’s Warehouse
Brookville, NY
Included in the reimagined new College of Veterinary Medicine for LIU’s Brookville, LI campus, are the Veterinary Learning Center (VLC) and Teaching Research Center (TRC). Opened in 2019, this new College is the only Veterinary Medicine College in the metropolitan area, and one of a handful across the country. The new college was designed by SBLM to complement the neoclassical architecture of the campus. The 36,000-square-foot, high-tech biomedical facility, the Teaching Research Center, is an enhanced learning environment adapted from a previously underutilized 1970’s warehouse facility. Repurposed for its new function, the TRC includes anatomy, pathology, research laboratories, and associated support spaces and was designed with the technical ingenuity, and learning-conducive design choices required for a project of this caliber.
