The project includes a new three-story, 52,000-square-foot addition accommodating approximately 500 students in grades 6–8, with new classrooms, science laboratories, administrative offices, and support spaces.

SBLM conducted a building condition assessment of the existing 100,000-square-foot facility and developed a holistic master plan integrating the addition with existing educational spaces, infrastructure improvements, and future phased accessibility upgrades.

A central focus of the project involved flood mitigation and coordination with FEMA requirements to strengthen the facility’s resilience against severe weather and potential flooding. Sustainable design strategies include an intensive green roof addressing Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements, improving stormwater retention and reducing runoff.

Additional improvements include energy-efficient Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC systems, upgraded mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and enhanced safety, security, and technology systems. Designed to align with NYC School Construction Authority Green Schools standards and target LEED Silver equivalency, the project integrates environmental responsibility, climate resilience, and operational efficiency while maintaining school operations through phased construction.
