William A. Butler School

SBLM was commissioned to design a new school facility to house two district primary schools within one footprint accommodating 950 students within a 116,000 sf school building. The site contains an early childhood play area, a main playground and community garden. Although the original school was a community icon, the burgeoning requirements rendered it inadequate. SBLM's design paid homage to the original school by identifying existing elements, incorporating architectural characteristics such as steeply gabled roofs, ornamental brickwork, and reusing the limestone entrance and portals.
