As ALDO makes a strategic expansion from Canada into the U.S. market, it partners with SBLM Architects to establish a strong and credible presence within New York City’s highly competitive retail landscape. Rather than relying on a repeatable prototype, each location is approached as a distinct design problem shaped by its surroundings, constraints, and role within the brand’s growth strategy.

SBLM supports several signature stores, including locations in SoHo and Times Square, both situated within character rich and technically challenging spaces. The SoHo store occupies a rough, existing interior that requires careful coordination to elevate base building conditions to ALDO’s brand standards. In Times Square, the store sits directly beneath an active theater, introducing structural, acoustic, and coordination challenges that influence layout, construction sequencing, and material selection. Many locations follow a small format footprint, demanding efficient planning, clear circulation, and strong visual impact within limited square footage.

“A strong retail presence is not about repetition. It is about understanding place and designing with intention.”

Across each project, SBLM balances consistency with site-specific response. Materials, lighting, and storefront transparency are adapted to reflect neighborhood context while reinforcing ALDO’s clean, modern retail identity. The firm’s experience navigating zoning, permitting, and accelerated construction schedules allows ALDO to move quickly while maintaining quality and brand clarity. Together, the projects form a portfolio of highly tailored retail environments that support ALDO’s entry and growth within the U.S. market.

As ALDO expands from Canada into the U.S. market, it works with SBLM Architects to deliver small-format retail spaces in some of New York City’s most demanding locations. Each store is designed as a one-off response rather than a prototype, shaped by existing conditions, tight footprints, and complex site constraints. From SoHo to Times Square, SBLM adapts materials, layouts, and construction strategies to support brand clarity while responding to context.
